OBSESSION

So I have this new obsession and no - it's not gross old chairs. And it's not even really new. In fact, it is something I have loved for a couple of years now but have started to really study. So if you haven't already guessed, my new obsession is photography. You see, back in November I started reading Scott Kelby's "The Digital Photography Book" which I finished in less than a week. Now, to people that love reading, this might not seem like such a big deal but I could probably count the number of books I have read in my life on my hands so reading a book (even one as short as this) in such a short amount of time was quite the feat for me. So as soon as I was done with that book, of course I moved on to "The Digital Photography Book, Volume 2" and then "The Digital Photography Book, Volume 3." Now I'm obsessed and I can't stop. I keep finding more and more books and now I'm checking photography blogs and finding different photographer's sights. I can't stop. But now it's time to actually apply some of the things I've been reading. It's time to pick up the camera again and start shooting. At first my goal was going to be to take a picture every day but I think that's a little too ambitious to start. So for now, I will just try to take pictures often. One thing I have learned from these books is that you don't necessarily need to have something big and wonderful to take a picture of. Some of my favorite pictures are of stupid little ordinary things that I would normally never even consider taking a picture of. Hence, the ugly chair at the beginning of this post. I sure do have a long way to go but hopefully my new obsession with reading and my commitment to practice will help me improve my ability. Here's hoping...

Every day as I run I always see something and think "as soon as I get home I am coming back with my camera." The moment sometimes has passed, but then there are those big old apples still on the tree fat with fermented juices hanging there saying, "photograph me, I dare you." I love it. Have fun!
